TUWHIRI – First Stretch Goal reached
Tēnā koutou katoa,
In a little over one day, we have launched a project on Kickstarter.com for The Tuwhiri Project, reached our initial goal of $4,000 in 15 hours, and a further 15 hours later reached our first Stretch Goal, $6,000. This is a real achievement, it’s tremendous, without any shadow of a doubt. With 34 days of the Kickstarter still to run we need now to focus on what we must do next.
Let’s remember that a campaign had been bubbling along for a number of weeks, in which we connected with those individuals and sanghas that were most likely to use After Buddhism: a workbook to run a course, and the small number of wealthier individuals who we know have an appreciation of a secular approach to the dharma. Much of what has been offered can thus be described as ‘low hanging fruit’. A few people who promised larger amounts have yet to pledge, so we can reasonably expect two or three more; exactly how much though we cannot be certain.
It’s time for us to change focus. We have arrived, we have made a huge splash, we are newsworthy. Someone needs to speak with writers from Tricycle, Buddhadharma and Lion’s Roar magazines and get them to mention our Kickstarter in their publications and their blogs. We need to get bloggers and podcast presenters to talk about how well The Tuwhiri Project’s Kickstarter is going. Why? Because we now need firstly to encourage individuals to buy our book, and secondly, we need to find those people who appreciate After Buddhism and want to share their appreciation of Stephen’s book and their love of the dharma with others by running a course using these two books.
And of course, it goes without saying that if you do know a practitioner who has a record of being generous and who may be willing to support this project, please point them at our Kickstarter.
We have two more goals to reach, and 34 days in which to do it. Surely, it must be possible. So, please give thought to who you can connect with and speak about The Tuwhiri Project, who you can point towards out website at www.tuwhiri.nz and our Kickstarter. Over to you.
